Castro District Community Info:

The Castro District, commonly referenced as The Castro, is a neighborhood in Eureka Valley in San Francisco, California. It is widely considered America’s first gay neighborhood, and is currently the largest and best-known. Having transformed from a working-class neighborhood through the 1960s and 1970s, the Castro remains a symbol and source of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) activism and events.

Castro Street originates a few blocks north at the intersection of Divisadero and Waller Streets, runs south through Noe Valley, crossing the 24th Street business district and ending as a continuous street a few blocks farther south as it moves toward the Glen Park neighborhood. It reappears in several discontinuous sections before ultimately terminating at Chenery Street, in the heart of Glen Park. The Castro boasts great neighborhood amenities with shopping, restaurants and nightlife close by as well as a short stroll to Dolores Park, Duboce Park, and the trendy Valencia Corridor.

Castro District condos range from around $500,000 for a generous one bedroom to over $1,500,000 for stylish townhomes with views. Single family homes in the Castro District can be sometimes be found in the mid $2,000,000 range but a recently completed home can command upwards of $4,000,000.
